Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine how process management contributes to the financial sustainability of heavy-duty transport companies in the city of Manta. To this end, we propose to characterize the current process management practices applied by heavy-duty transport companies in the city of Manta, identify the opportunities and threats perceived by companies in the sector with respect to process management, control, and operational efficiency, and analyze whether the application of process management improves financial sustainability and profitability indicators in Manta's transport companies. The article explores process management as a strategic tool to improve financial viability in heavy-duty transport companies in Manta. which, through a design that opts for a mixed approach, describes: the characterization of sector practices, the assessment of risks and opportunities and their scope for efficiency, profitability, and reduction of operating costs, with digitalization, the circular economy, and corporate social responsibility as elements to transform models towards sustainable approaches, despite the fact that the results collected show an incipient and heterogeneous process management, with weaknesses around periodic review, task responsibility, and the perception of impact on profitability. The relationship between operational efficiency and the reduction of errors or costs is found to be statistically insignificant, so an organizational culture trained in processes and the use of management technologies is necessary. In this way, the article concludes by demonstrating that, although countries present good practices, most have not systematically addressed the mixed approach to process management in their financial strategy.
