ABUNDANCE AND DIVERSITY OF THE BOREAL MIGRATORY BIRD ON THE BEACH OF TARQUI, MANTA, ECUADOR

At the local level, in Manta there is little or no information on the conservation status of birds and the number of species that exist, since wildlife monitoring is restricted to the protected areas of the province, without taking into account the ecological synergy that exists outside these spaces. Therefore, the objective of this article is to determine the abundance and diversity of the boreal migratory avifauna on Tarqui beach. The study area is located on the beach of Tarqui, in the city of Manta, Ecuador, specifically from the market for the commercialization of fishing products "Playita Mía" to the mouth of the "Río Manta-Burro" and the artificial rocky area that limits with the sector known as "La Poza". The study area delimited on the bird watching route is approximately 1 km. long, variable width that includes the sea, and is intervened by a wide range of human activities. Differences are observed between the number of species in the Tarqui Beach study area, which has a maximum number of species of 17 and a minimum of 11 with respect to the protected area known as “Isla Corazón y Fragata”.
