General objective: To validate the Spanish self-injury questionnaire (SHQ-E) and determine its diagnostic value for detecting self-injury in adolescents aged 15 to 19 years from the Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional "Daniel Álvarez Burneo", in the city of Loja, Ecuador. Methods: Qualitative-quantitative retrospective cross-sectional study conducted between October and November 2021. A target population of 18 students between 15 and 19 years of age assigned by the educational institution was considered, without considering whether they had previous professional help. The Google Forms platform was used for the application of a randomized pilot test and the SPSS statistical program was used to evaluate internal consistency by means of Cronbach's reliability coefficient. Results: The SHQ presented a Cronbach’s score of 0.940, which indicates good internal consistency and reliability for this scale. A strong positive correlation of the instrument is evidenced through the literals. Discussion and conclusions: The present study suggests that the SHQ-E is a valid tool and can be applied in adolescents from La Paz and allow an early approach to self-injurious behaviors that could lead to suicide.
