Abstract

In the training of nursing students, it has been observed that the development of soft skills, such as ethics, leadership, and problem-solving, is crucial for their professional performance and free time management. Objective: To determine the relationship between independent learning time and soft skills in first- and seventh-semester nursing students at the Technical University of Ambato. Methodology: A quantitative approach was used, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive design. The sample consisted of first- and seventh-semester students selected through non-probability cluster sampling. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, and two structured questionnaires were used to measure independent learning time and soft skills. Results: Most students showed an average level of independent learning time management. Regarding soft skills, professional ethics, leadership, and problem-solving stood out. It was observed that students with better time management also showed greater development of soft skills. Conclusion: Adequate time management enables students to strengthen fundamental competencies for professional nursing practice, which is essential for providing ethical, effective, and patient-centered care.
