POSTURAL OVERLOAD AND MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS IN OPERATING ROOM NURSING STAFF: AN ERGONOMIC APPROACH

This article reviews studies on ergonomic risks and postural overload in nursing staff working in operating rooms. A comprehensive bibliographic review of 30 articles published between 2020 and 2025 was conducted, focusing on the most common musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as back and neck pain, often caused by prolonged and improper postures, repetitive movements, and handling heavy medical equipment. The findings highlight that these issues negatively impact not only the physical health of nursing professionals but also the quality of patient care, as they lead to higher absenteeism, reduced work performance, and potential long-term disability. The article emphasizes the need for urgent interventions, including the implementation of ergonomic training programs tailored for nursing staff, the improvement of workplace conditions, and the introduction of ergonomic equipment and tools. These measures are crucial to preventing musculoskeletal disorders and promoting a safer and healthier working environment. By addressing these ergonomic risks, the health and well-being of nursing professionals can be safeguarded, which in turn ensures better care outcomes for patients.
