CONTEXTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN ECUADORIAN PUBLIC POLICY SCENARIOS

This paper explores the interrelationship between the perception of environmental protection, human rights, and satisfaction with citizen participation in public policy in Ecuador. In the context of increasingly implemented environmental policies for the protection of natural resources, the issue of how citizens perceive the effectiveness of these policies arises, especially in terms of human rights protection and citizen participation. The research focuses on determining whether there is a significant relationship between these perceptions, which could offer key information to improve the formulation and execution of public policies in the country. To address these objectives, a mixed research methodology was used that included a literature review and a structured questionnaire directed to a sample of 169 people from the city of Manta. Participants answered questions on a five-point Likert scale about their perception of environmental protection and human rights, as well as their satisfaction with citizen participation. The data were analyzed using simple linear regressions to examine the relationship between the variables. The main results show that there is a statistically significant relationship between the perception of environmental protection and human rights, while the relationship with citizen participation is moderate but not conclusive. These findings indicate that a positive perception of environmental protection can favorably influence the perception of human rights, highlighting the importance of integrated policies that strengthen both areas. Therefore, the research suggests that strengthening environmental protection and human rights in public policy can contribute to improving citizen satisfaction.
