THE PRISON CRISIS IN ECUADOR: AN ANALYSIS OF THE EVENTS OF 2021

The prison crisis in Ecuador in 2021 revealed significant shortcomings in the country's penitentiary system. This article analyzes the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to this issue, focusing on overcrowding, excessive use of preventive detention, and precarious living conditions in detention centers. Using a methodological approach based on document review and statistical data analysis, structural interventions and evaluation mechanisms are proposed to ensure respect for human rights and promote the social rehabilitation of inmates.
