Abstract

Speaking English as a foreign language requires knowledge of the language, physiological factors, and aspects related to the students’ personality, which can be worked efficiently using pedagogical interventions. This research aim is to strengthen the speaking skills of high school students through linguistic practice supported by phonetics. This study used a postmodern paradigm and a mixed research approach. The sample population consisted in eighteen students, all attended in a private secondary school located in canton Manta, Ecuador during 2023-2024. The instruments for collection of data are (1) Likert questionnaire and (2) Speaking skill test of SPEECHACE LLC in pretest and posttest. As a result, researcher team presents an educational intervention using phonetics for improving the language practices. It concludes that every student improved speaking skill from 0,30 to 2.30 points after the educational intervention. In addition, participants showed progress in their self-confidence to express their ideas and feeling using the target language.
