Abstract

Stabilization is a process through which non-agglomerated natural soils are subjected to obtain better properties and characteristics by incorporating additives that will result in stable road structures, capable of withstanding the effects of traffic and the most severe weather conditions. There are physical and chemical stabilizations, within the chemical stabilizations the most used today are with lime, cement, asphalt products, among others. Cement stabilization increases the resistance of soils and is mainly used for sand or fine gravel. The objective of the investigation is to determine the optimal percentage of lime and cement for the stabilization of the subgrade. The study of the different types of stabilizations that are currently used, such as those mentioned above, especially the research proposal, stabilization with lime and cement in three different percentages, where it is recommended to use 2%, improving the characteristics and properties of the subgrade soil under study; resulting in better resistance and a low plasticity index, when compared with the plasticity index of the material in its natural state of 22.21% to the plasticity index of the stabilized material of 8.16%.
