SUICIDAL BEHAVIORS IN PEOPLE PRIVATE OF LIBERTY

Suicidal behavior in prison is a problem that affects a significant number throughout the world. People in prison are at higher risk of committing suicide due to factors such as stress, lack of social support, limited freedom, and limited access to mental health services. The objective of this research is to investigate and systematize information on suicidal behaviors in persons deprived of their liberty, since it represents a significant problem that requires a comprehensive and coordinated response by the prison and mental health systems. In this sense, the present work uses a qualitative methodology, collecting perspectives on suicidal behaviors in people deprived of liberty, from various primary and secondary sources through bibliographic reviews. Different studies show that it is essential that prison systems implement effective strategies for the prevention of suicidal behavior in inmates. It is concluded that the prevention and adequate treatment of these behaviors are essential to guarantee the health and well-being of people in prison.
