Abstract

The impacts associated with the morphodynamics of the coastline in coastal areas have experienced a significant increase in their magnitudes, as a result of rapid changes in various physical variables and the intervention of man in the coastal environment. Anthropic activities, global warming, and rising sea levels not only introduce new types of coastal hazards, but also exert strong pressure on the sustainable development of coastal locations. The Manabí coast is an extensive area with a great ecological and geomorphological variety, where they settle and develop activities that contribute to the economic development of Ecuador. The Manabí coastal area is an environment sensitive to any change that may occur in its physical environment. The purpose of this research work is to evaluate the vulnerability of the coast by applying the Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) model and supporting the sustainable development of the settlements located on the Manabí coast. For the development of the research, 350km of beach have been considered, which have been divided into populated areas, focusing on 10 areas with the greatest impact on the Manabí coast. It is worth mentioning that for the application of the Model (IVC) 7 variables have been considered for the study. The information will be collected through satellite images (Google Earth) and aerial images along the Manabí coastline: Jama-Puerto López. In addition to data obtained from INOCAR. The research will serve for future projects and / or management plans and decision-making for the management of the sustainable development of the towns located on the Manabí coasts.
