Abstract
This research studies the relationship between financial digitization and SME optimization for the development of strategic innovation in Ecuador, using companies in the Manta canton as a reference. The research employed a quantitative, descriptive-correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional methodology. A structured survey was conducted with 28 SMEs, organizing its dimensions into business profile, financial management, digital and fintech tools, strategic decision-making, perceptions, and needs. The descriptive results showed a high level in the use of digital tools (mean = 4.33) and strategic decision-making (mean = 4.31). Financial management (mean = 3.52) and digital and fintech tools (mean = 3.39) were at a medium level. The main weaknesses identified were related to the use of financial indicators, cash flow projections, formalized financial policies, and fintech training. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient revealed a positive and significant relationship between financial digitization and decision-making (rho = 0.507; p = 0.006), and between firm structure and financial management (rho = 0.695; p < 0.001). It was concluded that financial digitization contributes to SMEs' competitiveness, planning, and strategic innovation.
